"Nothing is impossible. The word itself says I'm possible." ~ Audrey Hepburn
Hello there!
My name is Elaine and I am excited to take on the challenge of becoming an even better and more effective teacher than the best teacher I've ever had! I haven't decided which grades or ages I want to teach yet, but I'm looking forward to gaining experiences teaching in many areas! I am from the West Coast of beautiful British Columbia, a world of tall trees, forests and the ocean. I graduated from the University of Victoria with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Visual Arts major), and from the British Columbia Institute of Technology with a Diploma of Technology (Architecture and Building Engineering). I also have my ARCT Piano Performance Diploma and teaching certificates (Elementary & Intermediate). I've been teaching piano and ukulele since 2005. This past summer I got a chance to teach several art camps, writing lesson plans and coming up with activities and projects. It was quite the learning experience! I couldn't have asked for a better way to spend my summer vacation :) I hope to teach art and music, ESL and perhaps a foreign language. I could write a whole book about projects and lessons I want to work on with my future students, but for now, I just want to express how important it is to foster the creativity in all children. I love working with children and listening to their stories. They never fail to surprise me with their imagination, and they are one of the greatest sources of inspiration in my own artwork.
As Pablo Picasso once said, "Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up." Also, Sir Ken Robinson made the observation that we don't grow into creativity, we grow out of it or get educated out of it. I want to make sure I do my part and encourage creativity and imagination as much as possible in everyone I meet.
